I’m back.

Lastly I have used this blog for myself it’s been a while. I have been working teaching english and swedish at a junior high. No wonder unemplyed people blog. Working people don’t have the time, and somebody’s gotta provide reading for the working people’s lunch breaks, right!

Those letters sent from Nepal regard a project of my brother’s, he borrowed some internet space from me to reach everyone with the thank you notes from and orphanage for which he did a charity roll. Great guy, my brother. Charity organizing is no picnic.

Just when i was feeling a little apprehensive about spending my days not going to work for 8 o’clock everyday, i realized i have a lot of knitting projects not yet posted on Ravelry. Then I started feeling apprehensive about that. Is that really what Ravelry has become for me, like this thing that you must keep updated even when you don’t feel like it. NO! i don’t want it to be like that. Ravelry should be fun and nice and this extra goodie in my  so-called cyber life. So i decided i am not gonna bother posting month old woollies, that aren’t really that interesting to begin with. We’ll stick to the good stuff instead. Projects that are so selected they make me look like a supernaturally gifted knitter instead. Screw the mediocre mishaps with yarn. But then again, Ravelry isn’t supposed to be about that either. It’s not only a community for the pros, it’s also nice to see mediocre knits, those horribly gone wrong projects and not so original designs and just the plain old woollies that look a bit cooky posing flat on a table.

I might start posting them woollies after all.

Zilina Townsquare - YARNBOMBED!

Of course flying provides its own challenges for the avid knitter, so I turned to crochet and decide to not wprry about making gamrnets… But to keep my hands busy? Knit Graffiti of course! I ended up hitting our friends home town Zilina, Bratislava and in boredom also the Prague Airport. I noticed the waiting seats at the gates had armrests and figured since i like to surprise as many people as possible with my graffitis, what better exposure than a busy airport! also, i suspectthey don’t get cleaned so often?

On the Ice

This was the best weekend in a while. got to spend lots of time outside with some of my favorite people. On Saturday we were off to Ylläs on the SkiBus and I was “bus attending” with J assisting, he had to cover for a guy and had to ski at a sunny ylläs for a full day, BOOHOOO!! naw, it was great weather, weird in fact. Clear skies in the morning, turned into an hour of intense snow and went back clear. Perfect! And oh no, I have turned into one of those people living out there who don’t talk about anything other than the weather and snow conditions when they were last out there. Makes for super interesting  reading for those who weren’t there, I know. Sorry!

Top of Ylläs

Well, anyhoo I wanted to make fair isle mittens for myself for the remaining winter, and ended up with these pretty funky looking dark grey and fuchsia red Thunderbird mitts with zigzag pattern on the palm side of your hand. Pics soming soon.  I use the magic loop when knitting in the round, and it’s really hard for me to get the tension right with the fair isle. It always turns out bumpy and a bit too tight. Why? is it just my hands are unadjusted? It bugs me when I make amateur-looking projects when I should be doing better.

I am thinking about trying to write actual publishable patterns for the projects I make. If I ever wanna make it, I guess I’d better start doing that.

I like this vest! I think it looks super cool on him! Although the pattern was hard to understand at times, I finished it in record time. Exactly one week after buying the yarn, it was ready to be worn. I think maybe some was lost in translation (I had the finnish version of the book from the library). I will be getting the original in English soon, yay!

I am taking the risk of all time: the curse of knitting for Him. They say, some knitters believe, that knitting for your boyfriend can directly result in a break-up. I once read and article about it, and it seemed rather funny the way they seriously formed different theories around why it may even be true. One of the reasons I found the most intriguing was the commitment freak who could not handle so much care and love and time from their women that they simply had to escape the relationship as time and care was invested by the girl to knit a garment. I found it on Wikipedia under “sweater curse”, and I quote the article there:

“The knitter loves their sweater a little too much, and pesters the significant other about the sweater instead of working on their relationship. Alternatively, the knitter loves to knit too much, and spends too much time with their knitting instead of with the significant other.”

I figure, if anything, this might be the case with me if anything… But, I have taken on this project before, I made a Captain Haddock sweater for Him, and he never wears it beacause it’s a little too droopy. We are still happily together! Also, considering my lack of care for finished projects I don’t get too upset if the same sweater isn’t worn every fucking day! And besides, gius say son’t care about their looks and what they’re wearing, but THEY DO! They are more particular about it than women I think, because they tend to be more conservative with what’s just right…
